What car rental companies would allow me to rent a car from Seattle or Edmonton, AB, and drive it round trip to Fairbanks? I will need the car for 21 days. Also, for those that drove to Alaska, which route did you take, and why?

I am planning on writing a short story in which a character travels by car from Seattle to NYC, how long would it take? And what major cities/ landmarks are they likely to hit on the way there? I live in the UK so I am unaware of this.

Hey everyone, in case anyone’s been keeping score; this is going to be my 4th post about Seattle. Anyone else get the impression that I’m serious about moving there soon?
That being said, the search feature on this website revealed that the last question about owning a car was posted about 6-7 months ago. Very simple question, is it necessary or even more convenient to own a car in Seattle verses taxis, buses, bikes, etc.? I can get out to Seattle for cheaper by shipping and flying then by driving, but obviously if I need a car, that’s a serious consideration. I’m 22 and looking to enjoy the nightlife (hence one reason I really don’t want a car) so family is really no consideration. Thanks in advance
What's the drive like from sacramento to seattle?

I’m going to be driving up I-5 from sacramento to seattle. My car is pretty old and sometimes has trouble going up hills. Not too much trouble really but it just goes really slow going uphill. Is there a lot of uphill driving on this drive? I’ve done the coastal route before and I know that gets really mountainy and curvy so I was hoping this route would be easier.
